35 Home Gym Ideas That Give Off 'Luxe Influencer Vibes'

While a home gym isn’t a requirement for every space, it’s a fantastic addition if fitness is a regular part of your routine. Your home should reflect your personal aesthetic and lifestyle, and for each person, this can mean something different. For instance, home chefs might prioritize double kitchen islands or high-end appliances, while avid readers might dream of a sprawling library. But for those who thrive on daily movement, adding a thoughtfully designed home gym provides the ultimate retreat to reset and recharge.

The best home gym ideas cater to your preferred style of exercise. For yogis, incorporating calming paint colors and lush greenery can transform your meditation room into a serene oasis. For weightlifters, equipping your space with all the necessary gym gear can turn the hassle of commuting to a shared facility into a luxurious solo experience. And while items like dumbbells and resistance bands aren’t the most visually appealing, smart storage solutions can ensure your home gym flows seamlessly with the rest of your home's decor.

Whether you’re looking to master your Pilates form or work on your cardio endurance, the best home gym ideas can make you a happier and healthier version of yourself. To spark your fitness journey inspiration, we’ve gathered the best home gym ideas for you to peruse. Read on to discover 35 inspiring spaces.

Make It Sophisticated

Just because you're going to be sweating it out in your home gym doesn't mean it shouldn't be a sophisticated space. In this dedicated gym area by Cecilia Casagrande, the designer chose black walls, black floors, and mostly white accents to create the ultimate elegant home gym.

Design It Around Your Aesthetic

Your resting area and recovery zones should be just as stylish as the rest of your house—at least the team at Iron House Design thinks so. In this bright home gym, the designers put in an elegant white sectional and matching adjustable bench so their client could complete their sets in style.

Create Multiple Zones

In the converted garage that's now a home gym in our 2024 Whole Home, the team at Iron House Design created separate wellness zones in the space for the ultimate workout. There are mini circuit zones for strength training and cardio and plenty of storage space against the walls. Plus, by adding the right decor, they made sure the entire space looked luxe.

Bring In Nature

If you love the idea of working out in nature but not the actual experience of doing so, bring the outdoors in with your decor. Designer Lauren Sullivan of Well x Design incorporated a preserved moss wall in her hot yoga room. "From the very beginning, I knew I wanted skylights and a full wall of greenery, so we designed the entire space around these elements," Sullivan says. "We also optimized the space with energy-efficient, infrared, radiant heating panels placed discreetly in the ceiling."

Bring in the Light

Though this home gym that's fit for a dancer is located in the basement, Erin Coren of Curated Nest Interiors managed to make the space still feel light and airy. She chose Benjamin Moore's Simply White for the walls and ceiling so the space felt bright but not sterile, and she brought in a wall of mirrors to bounce the light around the room. "We kept the walls clean to allow our dancer client a blank canvas for creativity, and decorated with plants instead to breathe life into the space," she says. "In a basement, faux plants were the only option, but they do the trick!"

Make It Old School

Rather than going for a completely updated look, choose old-school aesthetics with modern elements. Erin Coren of Curated Nest Interiors chose a vintage boxing gym as inspiration for this home gym, infusing the client's love of rock 'n' roll in the space as well. "We didn't want it to have the gritty aspects of an old-school boxing gym, but instead elevated it with high-end finishes like the wood paneling and an antique mirrored wall with iron framing," Coren says.

Take Inspiration From Commercial Gyms

Yes, this is a home gym, believe it or not. Patrick Cunningham of C&C Partners explains that his client, who's very into health and fitness, always dreamed of having a commercial gym all to himself, so that's exactly what they made him. "When all was said and done, the luxurious gym—decked out with mirrors galore, every machine imaginable, perfect lighting, and glorious A/C—finished just under 1,900 square feet," Cunningham says.

Make It an Experience

These homeowners wanted to create a home gym experience that felt like staying at the most luxe hotel—Patrick Cunningham from C&C Partners made that wish come true. They put it in a building separate from their house, designing the glass doors on one side of the structure to open up into a zen-like garden complete with a custom water feature; the other side faces a courtyard.

Choose Ambient Lighting

Liz Potarazu of LP & Co. is not only the designer of this home gym, but its sole member. "The design vision was to create a space that felt cohesive with the rest of the home, which features bold colors, a plethora of intricate molding, and integrated lighting," she tells House Beautiful. She explains that she exercises at five in the morning, so overhead lighting would not have been pleasant in this room. Instead, she chose sconces that create ambient lighting to help her ease into the day.

Bring in a Pop of Color

To keep this home gym on theme with the rest of the home, Laura Hildebrandt of Interiors by LH brought in this pop of bold yellow which was inspired by a fabric used in the adjacent space. "I thought it was the right pop of color to make the space interesting without feeling oppressive," she says. She kept the other aspects simple, creating unique sections for activities and limiting visual clutter.

Express Your Personality

Haven’t you heard that rattan lighting is all the rage? And no, it’s not a fad. Decorate your home gym in your personal style so there’s no mistaking whose gym it is. In this studio by Curated Nest Interiors, the bohemian vibes are very present, setting the mood for a relaxing workout session every single time.

Ensure a Good View

Work out with a good view and tons of natural light by putting your home gym in a room with plenty of windows. This modern home gym designed by Jamie Bush is so pretty and serene that anyone would want to hang out in it—even when they're not pumping iron.

Make It Multifunctional

The founders of AphroChic—Jeanine Hays and Bryan Mason—partnered with Resource Furniture to create a multifunctional home gym and guest bedroom to maximize the space in their new home. The couple used the brand’s LGM product, which is a revolving wall bed with a fold-down desk, integrated shelving, and built-in queen bed, giving them essentially a three-in-one room that can be used as a home gym when everything is folded away.

Don't Hold Back

If you’re going to have a gym at home, go all in and make it as grand as any luxury gym you could join. Splurge on good machines, racks of barbells, and even hoops for arm workouts—whatever you need to do the workouts you love. You know what they say: Go big, or go home. K+Co. Living definitely went big with this design.

Keep It Compact

In this pool house turned wet bar turned home gym by the Pratt Guys, they kept all the necessary workout equipment to a single corner, even going so far as to choose a treadmill that folds up and hangs on the wall. If you don’t have room for a lot of equipment or simply don’t like the look, choosing pieces that can easily fold or hide is a great way to still incorporate a home gym.

Choose Soothing Colors

There’s nothing worse than going to the gym for a relaxing workout only to be greeted by abrasive colors and neon signs. At home, opt for neutrals or tones that calm you to provide a restful place to focus on yourself, as designer Laura Hodges did in this home gym slash office.

Move It Outdoors

If your climate allows, move your weight rack outside for a luxury gym vibe. This is not only a great way to get in your strength training, but it also lets you get a little sunshine and enjoy your outdoor space.

Leave Room for Relaxation

Part workout studio and part meditation pad, this home gym by Sherry Hart and Jennifer Jones Condon does it all. See those pretty gold and white decorative objects? They’re actually weights that double as sculptures. Seagrass meditation cushions and a daybed are there when a head-clearing is preferred to sweating it out on the Peloton.

Paint It a Bold Color

Crisp white paint isn’t the only option! In fact, sometimes a moody deep tone enhances the sense of intimacy and simply makes the space cooler. Here, design firm Sunny Circle Studio used Farrow & Ball Hague Blue, hung abstract art, and incorporated decorative seating.

Optimize It for Yoga

Leanne Ford transformed a backyard barn into a striking home yoga studio. The leaning tree branch is the perfect wabi-sabi addition (it’s a great plant choice if you’re on a tight budget or don’t have a green thumb). No backyard garden shed or barn to convert? Consider painting the floor and walls of a garage white and furnishing the space with cream meditation cushions and mats.

Add Spa Features

If space and budget allow, add some bells and whistles like a home sauna for some post-workout detoxing. Here, Studio Griffiths gave this wooden paneling an inky stain, and then back-lit the walls for added drama (heat-resistant lights are a sauna essential). This ensures an easy transition to the edgy concrete materials used in the adjacent space.

Create Outdoor Access

If you’re someone who prefers exercising outside, then make sure you design a home gym you’ll actually use by choosing a spot with plenty of direct sunlight. In this converted barn by General Assembly, the accordion doors open all the way up for fresh air exposure. You can always just install a fan for the effect of a cool breeze if real exterior access isn’t an option!

Elevate the Color Palette

Heather Hilliard made this home gym look elegant by painting it in a cool shade of gray and opting for exercise equipment in a similar tone. The consistent color story makes everything feel chic without compromising on functionality. Also, a wall-to-wall mirror can help you work on your form while also making a stuffy basement or small home gym feel much larger.

Serve Double Duty

This pretty home gym designed by Cass + Nico is tasteful, calming, and practical all at the same time. We love how it can double as a home office when it’s not being used for workouts.

Pack It All in

You don’t need a massive space to create a home gym you’ll actually use. Nestled into a corner with a single wall for storage, this home gym by Kelly Finley of Joy Street Design packs all the essentials into a small would-be storage room. A yellow ceiling makes for a sunny atmosphere, and colorful Flor tiles are easy on the knees.

Make It Feel Luxe

Mirrored walls are a gym design staple, but why not let your home workout space speak to your grand sense of style? Instead of plain mirrored walls, take note of this space by Ken Fulk and install an elaborate floor-length gilt mirror, hang pendants, and secure pretty wall sconces for task lighting.

Add Whimsy

Have fun with design treatments like wallpaper and decorative paint on windows and ceiling moldings. In this former bedroom turned home gym designed by Brad Krefman, “plaid wallpaper adds whimsy,” he says, and a view of the backyard makes it feel fresh and inviting.

Set the Right Mood

Think about what you’ll be using the space for so you can create an atmosphere that’ll actually inspire you to, well, do it. In this space, Regan Baker Design incorporated plenty of nature-inspired decor to create a calming environment, from the hanging greenery to the decorative wood wall piece and wave-like wallpaper. It’s perfect for yoga and other restorative mat routines.

Brighten It Up

Designed by Lauren Buxbaum Gordon of Nate Berkus Associates, this basement-level home gym appears to be double its actual size because of the floor-to-ceiling mirrors. The floors are painted white to enhance that fresh, wide-open feeling.

Repurpose a Sunroom

Design couple The Novogratz turned their sunroom into a personal gym. The large windows give the effect of being outside—but with air-conditioning! To ensure the room can also be used for other activities like reading, resting, meditating, or even as a mudroom, they kept the useable floor space mostly bare and dressed it up with whimsical lighting, floating shelves, and some artwork.

Make Room for Storage

Choose a modern dresser or sideboard to store your belongings in style, then opt for a statement piece to jazz up the walls as Nicole Hollis did here. Set up equipment near a window, if you can.

Hang Funky Art

Use fun versions of sporty accessories and equipment as decor, like a surfboard, or in this case, skateboards. Alexander Design also opted for quirky seating and neon art to keep the energy up in this modern home gym. A punching bag like this one doubles as decor.

Play Your Favorite Sport

This is not your average home gym. Heather Hilliard Design converted this basement into an elevated squash court so the homeowner could practice and play whenever. The leather chairs and sitting area right outside provide seats for lacing up or viewing.

Add a Tennis Court

A tennis court is a great use of your backyard that sets you up to live a healthier lifestyle. As proven by this one in a backyard designed by Edmund Hollander, it will beautify your landscaping too.

Make It Kid Friendly

Designer Darryl Carter hung swings and even added a basketball hoop in this converted garage gym for a group of growing boys at their family home. You could get a kid-sized, arcade-style basketball hoop if space is an issue—or choose the chicest one you can find and forgo the sporting functionality altogether.
