My Growing Creative Life December 14, 2024

If you’re looking for a cute, quick and inexpensive DIY project this holiday season, this clothespin snowman is definitely worth taking a peek at. Inspired by my mom’s love of snowmen and my daughters’ love of pom poms, these fluffy guys (and gals) are quick to put together minus the glue drying time (and if you don’t have a one year old trying to eat the pom poms). They are a great addition to any gift to make it a bit more special or can be clipped pretty much anywhere for decoration.
Speaking of decorations, when I was growing up, my grandma would place little elves all over her house. Some were in very obvious places and others not so much. My brother and I had the task, more like adventure, of finding all of them each year. It was tons of fun! As an update to an old tradition, I have a feeling I will be making a lot more of these next Christmas for both of my daughters to search for around our house. Looking forward to it!!
TIP: This kit from Amazon has pipe cleaners, pom poms, AND googly eyes all in one!
1. To create the hat, hold the black pipe cleaner about a quarter way down from the top of the clothespin and wrap it around the top of one side until it covers. Snip off the excess and put a bit of glue at each end of the pipe cleaner to keep it in place.
4. Glue the eyes and orange pom pom on to create the cute face.
5. LET EVERYTHING DRY!
6. Once the snowman is dry, feed your scarf pipecleaner through the hole in the clothespin. This is am important step because it keeps the scarf in place. Pull enough through for one side of the scarf.
7. Twist the pipecleaner once and bend it down towards the snowman’s body. Cut off the excess.
TIP: This kit from Amazon has pipe cleaners, pom poms, AND googly eyes
1. To create the snowman body and hat, add a generous amount of glue to the entire side of the clothespin. Add the 3 white pom poms and then the hat pom pom, starting at the bottom and working your way up. TIP: Starting at the bottom helps make sure that all of the wood is covered and that the pom poms get evenly spaced out.
2. Add some glue on the top of the hat pom pom and place the smaller pom pom on top. Hat complete!
3. Glue the eyes and orange pom pom on to create the cute face.
4. LET IT DRY!
5. Repeat steps 6 and 7 above to add the scarf.
