Basketball great LeBron James is demolishing the historic $37 million Beverly Homes mansion he purchased three years ago and building a new residence on its site.
According to a House Beautiful report, the 13,000-square-foot Spanish Mission style mansion on a 2.5-acre lot features four bedrooms, eight bathrooms, a screening room, a trophy room and a Pacific Ocean view. The property was built in 1934 for actor Charles Boyer and was later acquired by Howard Hughes, who leased it to Katharine Hepburn during the years they were lovers. It was purchased in 1986 for $2.9 million by William J. Bell and Lee Phillip Bell, the creators of the soap operas “The Young and the Restless” and “The Bold and the Beautiful.”
James, who recently signed a two-year $97.1 million contract extension with the L.A. Lakers, offered no clues on what the replacement residence will feature. James’ real estate portfolio includes two Los Angeles mansions and multi-million-dollar properties in Miami and Bath Township, Ohio.
