A New Orleans mansion built in 1856 that gained pop culture fame from its appearance in the television series “American Horror Story” was sold.
Mansion Global reported the property, known as the Buckner Mansion, was listed in May for $4.5 million and was later reduced to $3.998 million. The final sale price was not reported because Louisiana is a non-disclosure state, although listing agent Bryan Francher of Latter & Blum | Compass said the buyer is from Monroe, Louisiana, and plans to restore the property.
The 9,000-square-foot residence has seven bedrooms, six bathrooms and one half-bath, along with an apartment and a detached two-car garage. It was named for its Henry Sullivan Buckner, the original owner who was reportedly a cotton trader and slave owner, and from 1923 to 1983 it functioned as Soule Business College.
More recently, the property has been used as a location for film and television productions, most notably when it was used as the setting of Miss Robichaux’s Academy for Exceptional Young Ladies, a boarding school for young witches, in the third season of the “American Horror Story” series starring Sarah Paulson, Jessica Lange and Kathy Bates. While the property is privately owned, it is a popular site for tourists who take photos outside of its gates.
