How Healthy Misfit Practices Are Essential For Success

We live in a crazy world. So many things stress us out, but it’s more important than ever to take care of ourselves and reach misfit mogul status.

Maybe you’re tired, your brain can’t wrap itself around an exam, or you have a legit illness that plagues your reality. It’s no fun, but these are my honest ideas about why it’s okay. We grew up watching Marvel movies and think we have to be superheroes.

It’s not true. Proper misfit rest prepares us for the future.

 
Decompress!

My friend, it’s hard to decompress sometimes, but you have the skills. When seriously working hard at school, extracurriculars, or your future business, it’s okay to let go and listen to your body.

You’re tired! I believe acknowledging that signal and deciding to put down a book, play a video game, or watch a movie is legit when you know the signs. Your brain is stopping. You’re on overload. There’s nothing wrong with temporarily turning off when you need to. It’s good for the brain.

I bring up video games and movies because they always work, but make a list of other things that could help you decompress: going for a walk, chilling with your friends, attending a concert. The truth is that these activities serve a greater benefit than the screen, but sometimes, you need to do what you have to do, and that’s okay.

 
Fuel Up on the Good Stuff

I’ve recently been tired. I can’t tell if it’s from stress or just everyday things. Here’s the key: my mom and aunties fuel me up. Trust them! Food made at home by those who love you has extra vitamins (I just made that up, but it’s probably true).

That doesn’t mean that pizza is bad, but you’ll do a whole lot better on mom’s kitchari, nihari, okayu, adobo, moi-moi, pozole, or chilaquiles; just to name a few. Even their homemade pizza. Your ancestral dishes are filled with love and remind you that you have a safe place to recharge and get healthy.

You’ve got this crazy, amazing future ahead! Fuel up and understand that you don’t have to be a machine. The misfit mogul works hard, but the misfit mogul also needs to be a healthy kid.

 
Recharge Your Dreams

Bouts of nosebleeds and stress tell me that it’s time to slow down and recharge. I’m gonna get philosophical. If you’re not feeling well, the body might be telling you it’s time to rethink your habits and goals.

When we’re passionate about something, it excites us! When something is wearing us down, it drains our energy and health.

Get back to your napkin ideas and realign with who you are and what you want to do. There’s nothing more important than listening to your heart and understanding yourself. Journal it; seriously. There might be a lot of pressure on you, but you’re driving your life (while listening to your mom). It might sound lame, but follow your heart and realign yourself with what excites and motivates you. Misfit the situation by making your dream your own.

 
Reaching Out

I think that at the heart of “Misfit Mogul” is reaching out. We need each other. Do you need help from a doctor (I hate going to the doctor), help from a counselor, a mentor, or your parents? Reach out! You’re building yourself into the leader of tomorrow, and the only way to do that is to ask for help when need be to prioritize your health.

Start now, and you won’t be sorry. Eat mom’s food, focus on your goals, seek to understand yourself, but most importantly, understand that you’re a future entrepreneur or CEO. You don’t have to be perfect, but you’ll have a company to run one day.

That leader needs to start now with the right fuel: mind, body, and spirit.
